The indie publishing industry is an embattled landscape of scams, schemers, dashed dreams, and desperation. Thanks to Amazon and the advent of POD printing, we are inundated with dreck novels by would-be authors, while the truly rare, standout storyteller often goes unnoticed. Online predators take advantage of this gross surplus of books nobody wants to read, preying on the desperate with paid reviews, vanity presses, and marketing schemes that go nowhere.
But it’s not all gloom and doom. There is hope for those of us willing to put in the effort and make the sacrifices, those of us determined to master the art of storytelling. Like everything else, it takes passion, patience and, most of all, hard work! And if I’m to be honest, it’s really just 99% hard work.
