Trump Wins, America Loses

  1. I don’t like saying it, but America has been divided since the beginning and, unfortunately, it probably always will be. The people couldn’t agree on how best to govern and the two parties that would later become the Democratic and Republican parties were the most prominent ones that emerged. I know a lot of people said they would move to Canada if Trump won, but I was actually planning on moving to Canada no matter who won the nation because I’m just so tired of the current USA right now and how much people keep bragging about how “Murica” is the best when if fact there are several better countries out there that “Murica” could definitely take some lessons from. Don’t get me wrong, this is a great nation with a lot of potential, but I just don’t think we’re quite there yet. Iceland is the safest country in the world; Denmark is the happiest country in the world; Norway is the most prosperous country in the world; and Canada is the freest country in the world in terms of personal freedom, while the US is like number 15 for personal freedom. People need to read into why all those countries are what they are. I want to move to Canada because it has a dominantly progressive government and a progressive Prime Minister.

    1. I was never on the “America is the best” bandwagon. My parents emigrated from Greece in the 50’s, so I spent quite a bit of time over in Europe, and I got to experience the many freedoms they have that we can hardly dream about. In Greece, for instance, you can drink at any age and they don’t lock you up for going nude on the beach. Countries like France offer free healthcare and a college education, whereas here in the US, people go bankrupt over their hospital expenses and tuition fees. However, the American Dream has long attracted the best and the brightest and the most creative. NASA remains the world’s premier space agency, Apple the premier computer tech company, and our film and publishing industries still inspire the world.

But you are correct. America was founded by two kinds of people: religious fanatics fleeing Catholicism, and freethinkers/philosophers fleeing conformity. These two groups coalesced over time into North and South, clashing over slavery during the Civil War, and the fight rages on today between Democratic and Republican lines.

It is a bitter battle for America’s soul, our identity, and sadly, it looks like it will never end.

      Thanks for commenting.
